 বিদেশী ব্যাগ বৃত্তান্ত 

গতকাল রাত আটটা নাগাদ তারাতলা থানায় একটি হাতব্যাগ জমা করেন গায়ত্রী প্রসাদ নামে এক ট্যাক্সি চালক। জানান, ধর্মতলা এলাকায় একটি হোটেলে যাওয়ার জন্য বাবুঘাটের কাছে তাঁর ট্যাক্সিতে ওঠেন এক বিদেশী দম্পতি, যাঁদের সঙ্গে ছিল ওই ব্যাগ। তবে গায়ত্রী তাঁদের জানান, বাবুঘাট থেকে হোটেলে যাওয়ার রাস্তা সম্পর্কে তিনি নিশ্চিত নন, কাজেই বিদেশি যুগল ট্যাক্সি থেকে নেমে যান। রাতে তারাতলায় ফিরে গাড়ি পার্ক করার সময় ট্যাক্সির পিছনের সিট থেকে ব্যাগটি পান তিনি।

ব্যাগ তল্লাশি করে পাওয়া যায় একটি আইফোন এবং কিছু নগদ টাকা, কিন্তু পরিচয়পত্র অমিল। এবার সেই দম্পতির খোঁজে তারাতলা থানার অফিসাররা যোগাযোগ করেন হোটেলের সঙ্গে, সহযোগিতা করে নিউমার্কেট থানাও। খোঁজ পাওয়াও যায় কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই, এবং হোটেলের এক কর্মীকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে তারাতলা থানায় উপস্থিত হন দুই বিদেশী। জানা যায়, মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নাগরিক তাঁরা। পরিচয় যাচাই শেষে ব্যাগটি তাঁদের ফেরত দেওয়া হয়। গায়ত্রী এবং কলকাতা পুলিশের প্রচেষ্টার প্রশংসা করে খুশি মনে ফিরে যান দুই বিদেশী পর্যটক।

Bag and Baggage 

Last evening at around 8.00, taxi driver Gayatri Prasad deposited a handbag at Taratala Police Station, saying it had been left behind in his vehicle by a foreigner couple, who had boarded his taxi near Babughat. However, they had wanted to be taken to a hotel in the Dharmatala area, which the driver wasn’t sure how to reach. So the couple got off the taxi. Gayatri found the bag while parking the vehicle in Taratala.

A search of the bag revealed an iPhone and some cash, but no identity card or documents. Officers from Taratala PS then got in touch with the hotel, with help from New Market PS. The couple was located soon enough, and they arrived at Taratala PS accompanied by hotel staff. Stating themselves to be US nationals, they were handed the bag once their identity had been established. They left extremely happy with both the cabbie and Kolkata Police.
